What's new

The latest changes to Lehra Flow, newest first.

Founders plan, fills, tap tempo and a fresh start page

A launch offer and a few tools to make practice smoother.

New

  • Founders plan: a full year for Rs 699 ($39 abroad) for the first 50 members, once per account.
  • Play a tabla fill from the next cycle with one tap, then Saath returns to the variation you were playing.
  • Laykari can now ramp the tempo over a number of cycles instead of minutes.
  • TAP tempo in the lehra editor and in Laykari, as well as on Practice and the Tabla studio.

Better

  • We removed a set of older instrument sounds whose licence we could not confirm. Lehras that used them now play a close match.
  • A clearer start page.

Real tanpura, a tabla that plays along, and 50 instruments

Lehra Flow now sounds and behaves like a full riyaz companion.

New

  • A real tanpura, recorded from a real instrument, in 12 tunings (Sa-Pa, Sa-Ma, Sa-Ni, Sa-Sa, Pa+Ni, Ga, Ga+Ni, Dha, komal Ga, komal Dha, tivra Ma and the harmonic seventh) and every Sa. Pick the tuning from one menu. It never starts by itself.
  • Saath - plays tabla. Real tabla for your taal that follows your tempo and your Sa, and starts together with the lehra on sam.
  • Over 50 instrument sounds, most of them recordings of real instruments, grouped as Indian, Strings, Woodwinds, Brass, Keys and organs, and Plucked and mallets. Every one is tuned exactly, and they all play at the same loudness, so switching never jumps. The instrument preview plays at your Root note so you can compare them fairly.
  • Free tanpura and free tuner for everyone, no sign-up: the Basic tanpura tunings and the Sur tuner are open on the website.
  • Lock-screen and notification controls on Android: see what is playing and pause or resume from the notification, and the sound keeps going with the screen off.
  • Paying from outside India: switch on "I live outside India" to see US-dollar prices and pay with Wise.

Better

  • Your practice streak now counts every minute you play, on any page and with the screen off, and a day counts after one minute.
  • New accounts are created together with the payment screenshot, so there are no half-finished accounts. Plans are "activated" after we check your payment.
  • Cards no longer spill past the edge of the screen when your phone uses a large text size.

Lehra Flow 2.0

A new editor, a tuner for your tabla, and an app that is much faster on your phone.

New

  • A new piano-roll editor for your own lehras. Tap to add a note, drag to move it, drag its edge to resize it, hold and drag to select, and pinch to zoom. Set how loud each note is with the velocity lane. It works on phones, tablets and computers, and the controls bar collapses to give you more room.
  • Scales and chords. Choose a thaat or raag and the grid shows which notes belong. Lock your notes to the scale, let Guess scale suggest one, or add a chord with a single tap.
  • Sur - a tuner for your tabla. Use your microphone to see how close you are to your Sa, or play a steady note and tune by ear.
  • Laykari - a tempo trainer. Pick a start BPM, an end BPM and how many minutes, and the lehra speeds up gradually while you play. Want more control? Open Advanced to make your own keyframes (a time and a BPM each), smooth or in steps.
  • Practice streak and hours. See your daily streak and how long you have practised. Join the leaderboard if you like (it is off until you switch it on, and only shows your username and practice time).
  • You can install Lehra Flow on your phone. Add it to your home screen and it opens in full screen, with no browser bar. Pages and sounds you have already opened keep working if your connection drops.
  • Your work is safe while you create. A draft of your lehra is kept on your device, so a refresh or a back swipe will not lose it, and you get a warning before you leave.

Faster and smoother

  • Dragging, zooming and starting playback feel much quicker, and the app opens almost instantly when you come back to it.
  • Light and dark modes, with bigger buttons and cleaner layouts on phones, tablets and computers.
  • Switching instrument while a lehra is playing no longer causes a gap.

Accounts and sharing

  • Sign up with a username, password and phone number (email is optional). You can update your phone or email yourself on your Account page.
  • Every lehra shows its author, and the lehras you save are shared with all members.
  • An account works on one device at a time, so your plan stays yours.
